Daisy Children’s washbasin
competition project
|
Environmental design – The washbasin focuses on reducing water use when children wash their hands and faces. It facilitates rational water management and control over water use by parents. It promotes environmental responsibility by providing users with an objective orientation of water use.
Function – Up until now, this is the sole proposal for a product that facilitates functional and ergonomic hand washing for children and parents alike. Water consumption in the shower has been proven to be lower than that from a standard faucet. For this reason, the faucet on the children’s washbasin works like a showerhead. At low pressure, the child uses 1-2 dcl of water instead of the 2,8 l that runs down the drain while washing children’s hands at a standard washbasin designed for adults.
Psychosocial aspect – The product promotes independence and thus contributes to the child’s positive self image.
Timelessness – As regards quality of construction and design, the children’s washbasin is manufactured for longevity. It is not a toy. Its position is static so damage is unlikely. Design for a long life is one of the main principles of Design for Environment. Products are designed in such a way that when the product no longer serves its primary function, its lifetime can be extended by passing it on to another family.
Semantics – The washbasin has a strong association to a flower that is watered from above. Fresh water is added to a clean water reservoir shaped as a daisy. The faucet, shaped as a bee, hovers at the center of the flower. |
